Why are my brakes squeaking?

Brake Pad
The most common reason why brakes squeak is because the brake pads are worn down to the brake pad wear indicators. The brake pad wear indicators are small hardened steel tabs designed to rub against the brake rotors and make noise when the brake pads become too thin and require replacement. This low tech mechanical warning system is extremely annoying, but very effective. The idea is to give the vehicle owner enough warning so as not to cause unnecessary damage to the brake rotors. If the brake pads are allowed to be worn down beyond the friction material, the metal backing of the brake pads will grind against the brake rotors causing irreparable damage to the rotors. This unfortunate scenario will increase the brake repair costs unnecessarily.

Why is my brake pedal fading to the floor?

Women Shoe-Brake Pedal Fade
This common brake problem usually occurs when there is either an external brake fluid leak in the braking system, or if the master cylinder is bypassing. The brake fluid leak could come from any brake system component carrying brake fluid. This might include brake lines, brake hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders, or the master cylinder. Once the source of the leak is detected, the defective component will need to be replaced and the system bled to remove any air. A bypassing master cylinder refers to an internal problem within the master cylinder. If the master cylinder is bypassing, the part will need to be replaced and the system bled to remove any air. These types of repairs can be rather technical and should only be performed by trained brake professionals. After all, the braking system is one of the most important safety elements of any vehicle.
